Protected Area

Pic Macaya National Park is located on the Tiburon Peninsula in southern Haiti, within the westernmost region of the island of Hispaniola. Known for its rich biodiversity and unique flora and fauna, rugged mountains, deep valleys, and steep slopes characterize its landscape.

The Agua y Paz (Water and Peace) Biosphere Reserve in northern Costa Rica is comprised of Juan Castro Blanco National Park, Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge, four biological corridors, and an indigenous community. It is characterized by mountain ranges, volcanoes, and plains.

Alberto de Agostini National Park is a protected area in southern Chile that includes the Cordillera Darwin mountain range, the final land-based stretch of the Andes before it becomes a chain of mountains appearing as small islands that sink into the Pacific Ocean.

The Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve is a nature reserve in the southeastern Cordillera de Tilarán in northcentral Costa Rica. It is part of the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area, which protects the tropical forest area near San Ramón.

Alejandro de Humboldt National Park is the most significant and best-conserved remnant of forested mountain ecosystems in the Caribbean region. This World Heritage site is considered Cuba's most important protected area because of its extraordinary biodiversity values.

Alerce Andino National Park is located in the Andes, in the Los Lagos Region of Chile. The centerpiece of this lush and mountainous protected area is the Alerce forests. The Alerce is a towering tree species native to the Andes Mountains that can live for over 4,000 years.

Alerce Costero National Park is a testament to Chile's commitment to conserving its natural heritage. Nestled within the picturesque landscapes of the Los Ríos Region in southern Chile, this protected area spans the country's largest protected zone for mainland temperate coastal forests. Located west of Valdivia, the park boasts an array of breathtaking scenery, diverse ecosystems, and unique flora and fauna.

The Alto Golfo de California and El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve comprise the Pinacate area, Gran Desierto de Altar and Bahía Adair on the Gulf of California’s border in northeastern Mexico. Geological volcanic formations and the diversity of plant associations create its unique landscape.

The Alto Mayo Protection Forest in Peru covers 182,000 hectares of pristine nature and is home to diverse wildlife. Despite deforestation challenges, Conservation International is collaborating with local communities and government entities to sustain this vital ecosystem and preserve its enduring beauty and ecological significance.

The Alto Orinoco-Casiquiare Biosphere Reserve is located in the Venezuelan Amazon. Duida-Marahuaca National Park, a national protected area that includes the Duida-Marahuaca Massif, lies within the Biosphere Reserve.
