Belize Barrier Reef and Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System (Central/North America, Belize)

The coastal area of Belize is an outstanding natural system consisting of the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere, offshore atolls, several hundred sand cays, mangrove forests, coastal lagoons and estuaries. The system’s seven sites are a significant habitat for threatened species.

Lake Atitlán (Guatemala)

Lake Titicaca is a large, deep lake located at the northern end of the endorheic Altiplano basin high in the Andes, on the border of Peru and Bolivia. Ruins on the lake’s bottom, on its shore, and on the islands attest to the previous existence of one of the oldest civilizations known in the Americas.
