Altiplano (South America)

The Altiplano, also called Puna, is a region in west-central South America in the area where the Andes are the widest. It is the most extensive area of high plateau on Earth outside Tibet. The bulk of the Altiplano lies in Bolivia but its northern parts lie in Peru and its southern parts lie in Chile and Argentina.

The Alto Mayo Protection Forest is an area of protected forest land in northern Peru. This area preserves a portion of the tropical yungas forest in the upper Mayo River basin while protecting soil and water from erosion by deforestation. The area is the water supply for populations in the Mayo valley.
