Natural Landmarks in South America

Angel Falls, the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world, is located in the Canaima National Park in southeastern Venezuela along the border between Guyana and Brazil. Partially covered by table mountain formations, the sheer cliffs and waterfalls form a spectacular landscape.

The Archipiélago de Colón (Galápagos Islands) are volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, roughly 600 miles west of continental Ecuador. The archipelago is known for its many endemic species and was studied by Charles Darwin during the second voyage of HMS Beagle.

Caño Cristales is a river in Colombia's Serranía de la Macarena, known for the striking colors that occur in its waters. Serranía de la Macarena National Natural Park, one of Colombia's best-protected, is at the confluence point of the Orinoco Basin, Guiana Shield, Amazon Rainforest, and Andean ecosystems.

Caracol State Park, located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, boasts the stunning Caracol Falls - a popular tourist destination. The waterfall is between the Brazilian Highlands' pine forest zone and the southern coastal Atlantic Forest and comprises two cascades.

The Chicamocha Canyon, located within the Colombian Andes, is among the largest in the world. Chicamocha National Park, also known as Panachi, is a major tourist attraction due to is spectacular landscape and the variety of outdoor activities that it offers. 

Deep within the heart of the Colombian Amazon lies a natural and cultural treasure of immense significance – the Serranía de Chiribiquete and the Chiribiquete National Natural Park. This vast expanse of pristine rainforests, towering tepuis (table-top mountains), and ancient rock art represents a captivating blend of breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and profound indigenous heritage.

The city of Ica lies along the desert coast of southern Peru. Huacachina is a village built around a small desert lagoon. Dunes surround this natural oasis in what is often called the "Ica Desert." Ica, as well as Huacachina, is famous for its Pisco.

At the very edge of the known world, where the vast expanse of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans converge, lies a realm of untamed wilderness and maritime lore – Cape Horn, the Diego Ramírez Islands, and the legendary Drake Passage. These extreme latitudes, situated at the southernmost tip of South America, have long captured the imaginations of explorers and sailors, representing both the ultimate test of human endurance and the gateway to uncharted territories.

The Cordillera Vilcanota is a mountain range in southeastern Peru that constitutes one of the southern branches of the Cordillera Occidental. Vinicunca, or "Rainbow Mountain," is a natural landmark. Ausangate, significant in Incan mythology, is the tallest peak in the range.

The Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve in southwest Bolivia, its most visited protected area, contains an extensive range of landscapes, including volcanic mountain peaks, hot springs, geysers, lakes, fumaroles, and windswept deserts.
