The Bonaire National Marine Park is the oldest marine reserve in the world. It includes the waters around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire's reef-lined coasts. In 1999 the underwater park received the status of National Park of the Netherlands Antilles.
Washington Slagbaai National Park is an ecological reserve on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean Netherlands. Originally inhabited by native South Americans and comprised of two of the largest plantations on the island during colonial period, the park is rich in historical and cultural heritage.
