Protected Areas in Argentina

Nestled in the heart of Argentina's San Luis province, the Sierra de las Quijadas National Park is a unique and ecologically significant protected area. Established to safeguard the natural features of the Semiarid Chaco and Argentine Low Monte ecoregions, this park represents a critical transitional zone between these two distinct biomes, offering a remarkable diversity of plant and animal life.

Nestled in the province of Corrientes in northwestern Argentina lies the breathtaking ecosystem known as the Iberá Wetlands, or Esteros del Iberá. This expansive wetland marvel unfolds as a mosaic of marshes, swamps, bogs, lakes, and lagoons, creating one of the most significant freshwater reservoirs on the South American continent.

Along Argentina's Atlantic coast, in the southern reaches of the Río de la Plata estuary, lies the Parque Costero del Sur Biosphere Reserve – a verdant oasis showcasing the nation's rich natural and cultural heritage. This sprawling protected area, comprising fertile pampas grasslands, swamps, wetlands, and dry forests, is a true celebration of biodiversity, where the unique ecosystems of the river and the pampas converge.

Tierra del Fuego National Park is located on the western half of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego in an area known for its biological richness. It stretches from the Beagle Channel to the shores of Lago Kami at the southernmost point of Argentine Patagonia.

Valdés Peninsula in Patagonia features significant biodiversity, including highly fragile terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The dynamic coastal zone features rocky cliffs, shallow bays, coastal lagoons, and small islands. It is both a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.

The Yabotí Biosphere Reserve is located in the Misiones province of northeastern Argentina. The reserve is part of the Misiones Rainforest Corridor, within the Amazon rainforest region, home to some of the most traditional villages of the Guaraní people.
