Protected Area

The Serra do Divisor National Park is situated in western Brazil's Amazon plain, close to the border with Peru. It forms one of the Amazon's most extensive and unbroken protected areas when combined with Peru's Serra del Divisor National Park.

Serra do Gandarela National Park is situated within the Espinhaço Range and harbors a remnant of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. Waters from the Serra do Gandarela feed the basin of the Das Velhas River, which supplies the city of Belo Horizonte and the metropolitan region.

Serra Furada State Park is located in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, protecting a densely forested mountain region that is part of the Atlantic Forest biome. The park is situated on the escarpment of the Serra Geral, adjacent to the São Joaquim National Park, forming a continuous forest area.

The Serranía de Chiribiquete are isolated table mountains in the Amazon Region of Colombia at the confluence point of four biogeographical provinces. Chiribiquete National Park - "The Maloca of the Jaguar" is a World Heritage site with natural and cultural significance.

Sete Cidades National Park is located in the Northeast Region of Brazil and contains an important geological formation. The park is surrounded by the Serra da Ibiapaba Environmental Protection Area (APA), which protects and conserves Cerrado, Caatinga, and Atlantic Forest remnants.

In the language of the Mayan peoples who once inhabited this region, Sian Ka'an means 'Origin of the Sky.' Located on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, this Biosphere Reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, and a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef.

The Sierra de Álamos - Río Cuchujaqui Biosphere Reserve, in the Mexican State of Sonora, hosts extraordinary biological wealth and an abundance of critical species. Vegetation ranges from tropical deciduous forests to Sierra Madre evergreen forests.

The Sierra de Huautla is a mountain range in south-central Mexico. The Sierra de Huautla Biosphere Reserve is located in the Balsas River basin. Its rough topology contains a broad representation of ecosystems constituting a rich reservoir of species endemic to Mexico.

Nestled in the heart of Argentina's San Luis province, the Sierra de las Quijadas National Park is a unique and ecologically significant protected area. Established to safeguard the natural features of the Semiarid Chaco and Argentine Low Monte ecoregions, this park represents a critical transitional zone between these two distinct biomes, offering a remarkable diversity of plant and animal life.

The Sierra de Manantlán Biosphere Reserve is situated at the transition of the Nearctic and Neotropical biogeographic realms and encompasses parts of the Sierra Madre del Sur. Biologically diverse, it is considered one of the most important protected areas in the western part of Mexico.
