Biosphere Reserves in the Caribbean

The Seaflower Biosphere Reserve encompasses the entire land and marine territory of the San Andrés Archipelago in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. The archipelago, which forms the West Indies Department of Colombia, supports diverse marine and bird life and extensive coral reefs.

The Sierra del Rosario is located in the eastern part of Cuba's Guaniguanico mountain range, the site of the first significant coffee plantation in the New World. The Biosphere Reserve protects tropical forests with evergreen and semi-deciduous environments.

Spanning the borders of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the La Selle / Jaragua-Bahoruco-Enriquillo Biosphere Reserve stands as a testament to the region's rich biodiversity and ecological significance. This transboundary reserve encompasses two distinct yet interconnected protected areas: La Selle in Haiti and Jaragua-Bahoruco-Enriquillo in the Dominican Republic, forming an environmental corridor that transcends political boundaries.

The Virgin Islands National Park, renowned worldwide for its breathtaking beauty, protects approximately 60% of St. John and nearly all of Hassel Island in the Charlotte Amalie harbor on St. Thomas. In addition, the Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument is located offshore of the island of St. John.
