Protected Area

The Ñacuñan Biosphere Reserve is located in the Argentine province of Mendoza, in the plains at the foot of the Andes. The area consists of semi-arid upland grasslands, shrubby steppe, matorral, and shrubby and herbaceous woodlands and wetlands.

The Nature Reserve of Saint Barthélemy protects underwater ecosystems around the Caribbean Sea volcanic island, including shallow reefs, seagrass beds, and marine life. The Nature Reserve includes coral formations in five sectors.

Located in the heart of Mexico, the Nevado de Toluca volcano and its surrounding national park are a true marvel of the country's natural beauty. Formerly known by its Aztec name "Xinantécatl," this stratovolcano is a part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and stands as the fourth-highest formation in Mexico. It has always been a popular spot for locals and visitors, allowing a glimpse into Mexico's rich geological and cultural heritage.

Nevado Sajama, a majestic extinct stratovolcano, proudly stands as Bolivia's loftiest peak. This towering giant is nestled within the Sajama National Park, a pristine expanse in the Oruro Department, east of the Chilean border. The volcano and its protective sanctuary weave a tale of geological grandeur, indigenous heritage, and conservation triumphs.

Noel Kempff Mercado National Park in northeastern Bolivia is one of the largest, most intact parks in the Amazon Basin and is the site of a rich mosaic of habitat types. This World Heritage Site boasts an evolutionary history dating back over a billion years to the Precambrian period.

The Northeast Tobago Biosphere Reserve is located within the northeast region of the island of Tobago, comprised of a large marine and terrestrial area. It presents a rare Caribbean island ridge-to-ocean ecosystem, including the world's oldest tropical rainforest reserve.

The Oxapampa-Ashaninka-Yanesha Biosphere Reserve and Yanachaga-Chemillen National Park in central Peru comprise the last undisturbed ecosystems in the central jungle. Its location between the Amazon forest lowland and montane cloud forest results in a high diversity of flora and fauna.

Pali-Aike National Park is a protected area in the Magallanes Region of Chile, characterized by its barren, volcanic terrain. It is home to various geological and archaeological features, including a volcanic crater, lava flows, and ancient cave paintings.

Nestled in the heart of the Guanacaste Province, Palo Verde National Park is an integral part of SINAC's Tempisque Conservation Area. The park derives its name from the hardy palo verde shrub, an emblem of the resilience that characterizes this unique ecosystem. This national treasure is among the last bastions safeguarding the endangered tropical dry forests that once blanketed Central America.

Pan de Azúcar National Park is located along the northern coast of Chile. A famous Humboldt penguin breeding ground, it contains the coastal desert of Taltal and the steppe desert of the Sierra Vicuña Mackenna. In addition, the small fishing village of Caleta Pan de Azúcar is located within the Park.
