Protected Areas in South America

Serra Furada State Park is located in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, protecting a densely forested mountain region that is part of the Atlantic Forest biome. The park is situated on the escarpment of the Serra Geral, adjacent to the São Joaquim National Park, forming a continuous forest area.

The Serranía de Chiribiquete are isolated table mountains in the Amazon Region of Colombia at the confluence point of four biogeographical provinces. Chiribiquete National Park - "The Maloca of the Jaguar" is a World Heritage site with natural and cultural significance.

Sete Cidades National Park is located in the Northeast Region of Brazil and contains an important geological formation. The park is surrounded by the Serra da Ibiapaba Environmental Protection Area (APA), which protects and conserves Cerrado, Caatinga, and Atlantic Forest remnants.

Sumaco Napo-Galeras National Park is a protected area and Biosphere Reserve in northeastern Ecuador. It is situated in the provinces of Napo, Orellana, and Sucumbíos in two sectors: the Sumaco volcano and its adjacent areas and the Cordillera de Galeras.

Tambopata National Reserve of southeastern Peru is a massive subtropical rainforest with forested hills, plains, swamps, oxbow lakes, and meandering rivers. Its great wildlife diversity is due to its location at the confluence of the lowland Amazon forest with three other ecosystems.
