Protected Areas in Chile

Pan de Azúcar National Park is located along the northern coast of Chile. A famous Humboldt penguin breeding ground, it contains the coastal desert of Taltal and the steppe desert of the Sierra Vicuña Mackenna. In addition, the small fishing village of Caleta Pan de Azúcar is located within the Park.

Patagonia National Park is situated in the Aysén region of southern Chile. It lies in the transition zone where the arid steppe of Argentine Patagonia meets the temperate southern beech forests of Chilean Patagonia. The park boasts diverse ecosystems, including grassland, riparian forests, and wetlands.

Pumalín Douglas Tompkins National Park is in Chile's Los Lagos region, boasting magnificent coastlines, waterfalls, fjords, and volcanoes. The Michinmahuida and Chaitén volcanoes tower over the landscape. However, the park's most notable feature is the threatened Alerce tree.

Puyehue National Park is in southern Chile's Los Ríos and Los Lagos regions. Located in the southern Andes and dominated by the Puyehue volcano, Chile's most famous National Park features natural thermal springs, volcanoes, and evergreen forests.

Queulat National Park is located in the Aysén Region of southern Chile. It protects glacier-capped mountains and virgin evergreen Andean Patagonian forests. The park's centerpiece is the Queulat hanging glacier, Ventisquero Colgante.

Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, Chile's first, is named in honor of Vicente Pérez Rosales, a revered Chilean politician and diplomat. It encompasses an expansive area within the Lakes Region of the Chilean Andes and is renowned for its breathtaking and diverse landscapes. It hosts the iconic Lake Todos Los Santos and the Petrohué Waterfalls, surrounded by Valdivian temperate rainforests, a sanctuary for numerous plant and animal species.

Villarrica National Park is in the Chilean Andes, in Chile's La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions. The National Park protects the Valdivian temperate rainforest habitat. A popular hiking destination, highlights are the volcanoes: Villarrica, Quetrupillán, and Lanín.

Yendegaia National Park is located in the Magallanes y la Antártica Chilena Region of extreme southern Chile, within the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. The landscape comprises vast pampas, unexplored mountains, glaciers, lakes, canals, rivers, and fjords.
