Located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the Archipiélago de Revillagigedo is made up of four remote islands and their surrounding waters. Part of a submerged volcanic mountain range, the islands provide critical habitat for a range of wildlife and are of particular importance for seabirds.

The Caribbean Plate is a mostly oceanic tectonic plate underlying much of Central America and the Caribbean Sea off the north coast of South America. These borders are regions of intense seismic activity, including frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The Cocos Plate is a tectonic plate beneath the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Central America. It is named for Cocos Island, which is the only emergent island of the plate.
